The Pedal Possum Story
A longtime resident of Montclaire South, Caleb has been making compost in his backyard for years with his housemates. His passions for the environment and sustainability have led him to question some of the default life choices most people make, such as driving cars and cultivating grass lawns, and he wants to promote more sustainable practices in his local community. Thus, at the start of 2026, he launched an ambitious new venture: Pedal Possum, a hyperlocal bicycle-powered service aimed at diverting food scraps from the trash. A good possum leaves no scrap wasted!
We all know the mantra of waste reduction: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! It's up to each of us to reduce the food we take possession of but don't consume, and to reuse leftovers whenever possible, but when it comes to recycling there's no accessible option for most people. Managing a compost pile requires space, tools, knowledge, physical ability, and a whole lot of elbow grease. Pedal Possum is here to fill that gap using the most environmentally-friendly methods possible.
